Grandwood PBIS

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a set of strategies and systems designed to increase the capacity of schools to:
(a) reduce school disruption, and
(b) educate all students including those with problem behaviors.

Grandwood students are taught the Hawk Traits: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible.  Students learn what it looks like to show these traits through their entire school day: hallway, community, vocational sites, classroom, lunchroom, and office to name a few.  Students that demonstrate these traits through their day are given Hawk Trait tickets.  Some tickets have a Grandwood Hawk stamp on the back which allows them to put their ticket into a drawing for a Kindle.  The drawing will take place at the May PBIS Assembly.

Each month Grandwood has a PBIS assembly.  This is an assembly to honor all of the wonderful ways the students have demonstrated PBIS Hawk Traits.  Each student is individually recognized by a staff member or a fellow student for something they did that embraced the traits  We also honor two students as our Students of the Month and these students are recognized all month on the bulletin boards in the school for staff and students to get to know them better and see how they earned Student of the Month.
