Grandwood Classroom Characteristics

Elementary Classroom

Ages 6-11

  • Teach social skills
  • Increase student's ability to communicate wants and needs
  • Teach functional academics as determined by the student's IEP
  • Following a schedule
  • Early life skills (i.e. brushing teeth, toileting, cleaning, etc.)
  • Social skills

Middle School Classroom

Ages 12-14

  • Teach functional academics as determined by the student's IEP
  • Increase appropriate peer interactions
  • Pre-vocational skills (i.e. recycling, cleaning, meal preparation)
  • Following a schedule
  • Social skills

High School Classroom

Ages 15-21

  • Teach functional academics as determined by the student's IEP
  • Teach leisure and recreational skills
  • Develop vocational skills
  • Prepare for post-secondary living, learning, and working
