Free Lunch/Breakfast Update

SFSP Free Lunch & Breakfast Update · November 30, 2020

Dear Woodward-Granger Families,

The USDA has issued waivers for all Iowa districts to extend the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).  This funding provides the opportunity for FREE breakfast and lunch to ALL enrolled WG students.  This program has now been extended past December to the end of the school year, or until available funding runs out.

What is included in a free meal?
In order to qualify for a free meal your student needs to be served a complete meal with all of the components required by the USDA (protein, vegetable, fruit, dairy).  A la carte (i.e. pizza, chips, propel, breakfast bars and other snack cart items) and unbalanced meal purchases are not part of this program.  Please keep an eye on your student’s lunch account balance during this time as charges can still accrue.  If you need assistance or have any questions please reach out to the Kitchen or the Central Office.

How does this affect applying for free and reduced lunches?
We highly encourage Parent/Guardians to please fill out the Iowa Eligibility Meal Application to apply for free and reduced status.  When we return to charging, you will still receive the appropriate meal benefits.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Valerie Finestead (valfinestead@wghawks.school) or Taylor Halligan (taylorhalligan@wghawks.school).

Thank you,
Woodward-Granger Community School District
