Hawk Happenings - August 2017

August 1, 2017

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! It is with great pleasure that I welcome both our returning families and those who are new to our communities. As projected, our enrollment continues to steadily grow as we expect approximately 87 students in our kindergarten class this year and close to 970 students system wide.

Fortunately, a lot of work has gone into preparing the facilities and providing additional classroom amenities at all levels to accommodate our growing enrollment. Air conditioning is now 100% throughout our classroom spaces and much needed painting, carpeting and maintenance has been performed throughout the facilities. We hope you will recognize some of these changes and take a moment to thank our custodial staff.

Woodward-Granger administrators and teachers spend a great deal of time during the summer preparing for the upcoming school year. This contributes to what we know will be a smooth opening to the 2017-18 school year. Summer is also a time for our students to engage in additional skills work. Approximately 60 students district wide will be invited to attend a 3-week session prior to school starting to enhance their skills.

Back to School is a wonderful time for those of us involved in education because it allows us to develop new goals, build new relationships and embark upon new challenges. Our District Goals this year highlight academic achievement, fiscal responsibility and emphasize two-way communication with all of our stakeholders. It is our belief that it takes everyone on board to educate a child and to take on both academic and social- emotional challenges our students are presented.

One of the most important parts of my job is to be in the schools and to be visible in the community. I look forward to engaging with parents and community members throughout the school year and invite you to any/all of the events that celebrate our student’s successes. We welcome the opportunity to get to know you better, share our challenges and come together as one for our students.

As we begin the 2017-18 school year, please accept my best wishes for a wonderful Woodward-Granger experience.

Brad Anderson
Superintendent
